the staff were really helpful and collected us, my husband his scooter and our luggage. The decor is lovely, very fitting for the setting. The town inside the walls is fun to walk around especially at night. The weather was foggy and damp when we were there, but nevertheless, the view was superb. Separate living area and bedroom, plenty of space to pack and unpack. Yes this hotel is the lower priced one of the two inside the castle walls, which we enjoyed as it made wandering around late at night seem a bit romantic. Such a lovely weekend. Very efficient ferrying to & from our car. Loved this hotel, this was our second visit and they did not disappoint, great service, lovely room and the bedding was perfect. Really nice and convenient. There was some vehicle noise at around 6 in the morning and the sound of glass being "skipped". The hotel is old and therefore rather dark but our room, in the garden annexe, sounded much lighter. (the hotel is actually located in two non-contiguous locations within the ramparts - we stayed in the main hotel - where the reception is located. Tres charmant! I will say, there are some nice features of the hotel: the location is superb, and the grounds are quite lovely, especially the little courtyard with breakfast tables. it is a huge tourist place so pickpockets are everywhere and we figured it was work the $19 to park overnight and not worry. All in all a lovely place to stay. The room was a good size, with a large, comfortable bed and a bathroom with bath and separate shower. The real downside was the breakfast.
Dear Frasier_Niles, Thank you so much for your very unique review following your stay at the Best Western Plus Hotel Le Donjon. Central to the fortified city, you'll have old Carcassonne to yourself in the evening & early mornings. We availed of the parking and got a lift to the hotel which I would recommend as a little luxury. A.M. Siempre Cafe First on the list is A.M. Siempre Café. Just a ten minute walk down from the city and over a huge medieaval bridge (now pedestrianised) is the Bastide Saint Louise. The younger man spluttered. Breakfast is available in the hotel. Since the walled city is small, its close to everything (sites and restaurants). Our hotel has a restaurant and lounge, four conference rooms which will accommodate up to 100 guests, business services and a reception area with a television and reading lounge. Our room was a disappointment, not for its location, which was ideal, but for the very basic and standard style of the room. Absolutely amazing to stay in the old town. The cost, very good for such a wonderful environment, place, with history. The breakfast cost 15 euros but was worth it. This is not something I've found elsewhere in France. Very very helpful when traversing the old streets with luggage! The rooms were lovely and the staff was great. Get there early as it quite small. The staff we encountered were professional and friendly. Breakfast is a buffet and supplies are plentiful. They treated her like a queen, gave her a terrific room, and gave us a lovely one with an incredible view of the citadel right next door. It is pleasure to learn of your satisfaction in particular with the services provided by our whole team. The parking situation was odd, but the friendly, helpful porters made the system work efficiently. Good bargin with free parking, bags shuttled through tiny stone streets, and reasonable room rates. A lovely hotel right in the centre of town. We parked our rental car outside of the city walls and the hotel transported us inside to the hotel. Carcassonne is is so close to the villages and wineries of the Languedoc. I would recommend this comfortable hotel to anyone. The rooms are on the small side but well appointed and clean and above all, air-conditioned. They will tell you there is free parking, but a little vague on where it is We spent 4.5 hours getting this "free parking", seemed ridiculous goose-chase but once you start I guess you just keep thinking it will happen.
Close to the airport (a bus shuttle runs 5 € pp or 25€ in a taxi ) with a good mixture of history, walking tours, shops both tourist and high end jewellery , and a good range of restaurants. And there was another one on the floor beside it! No problem to have our dog with us. Excellent service and an upgrade to a family room in the Courtyard. Brilliantly located all interiors and rooms were fabulously comfortable and beautifully decorated.
